Departing residents
After terminating your rental agreement, you should begin preparing for your move. Guidelines for returning keys and completing the final cleaning when moving out.

Do the final cleaning
Clean the apartment thoroughly. The apartment must be cleaned by 12 noon on the official move-out day to allow the new resident to move in. Ensure there is enough space for both those moving in and out.
Cleaning instructions also apply to shared areas in shared apartments. If shared areas are not cleaned, cleaning expenses may be charged to the departing tenant.
- Empty and clean the cupboards: Remove all items from the cupboards and wipe the shelves, drawers, doors, and tops.
- Remove furniture and items: Ensure the apartment is completely emptied of all furniture and items.
- Wipe the surfaces: Dust and remove stains from the walls, doors, door handles, and light switches.
- Clean the stove and oven: Clean the sides, back wall, and underneath the stove. Also clean the oven trays and rack.
- Cooker hood and filter: Wipe the cooker hood and wash the cooker hood filter.
- Fridge and freezer: Defrost the freezer and clean the fridge. Be careful not to let the melting water drain onto the floor. If you do not turn the fridge back on after cleaning, leave the doors slightly open. Remove the fridge cord from the plug before returning the keys.
- Air conditioning vent: Wipe away dirt from the air conditioning vent and its exterior.
- Bathroom and toilet: Wash the floors and walls, and if necessary, wipe the ceiling clean. Clean the toilet bowl, sink, taps, shower, and mirror cabinet. Do not forget to clean the bottom of the sink, the foot and back of the toilet seat, and any cupboards in the bathroom.
- Floor drain: Clean the floor drain in the bathroom.
- Windows: Wash the windows (in the winter, only clean the inside surfaces).
- Floors: Vacuum and wipe the floors. You can wash plastic floors with a wet cloth, but for other materials, use a damp cloth.
- Balcony and storage unit: Empty and sweep the balcony and your storage unit.
Empty and lock the storage unit
Empty, sweep, and lock your storage unit with AYY’s lock. Return the key to the service office. If you have used your own lock, please replace it with AYY’s lock and pick up the lock from the service office during opening hours (see the opening hours). Do not leave the storage unit door open. Return the key to AYY’s lock, along with the other keys, to the service office.
Please note! If you live in one of the following locations: Arkadiankatu, Haarniskatie, Kääpiöidenpolku, Kaj Franckin katu, Rummunlyöjänkatu, Otaranta or Jämeräntaival and you are handing over the keys to the new resident, you must return the storage unit key to the service office.
Deposit refund
Your deposit will be refunded to the account provided in the Domo system within approximately one month after the end of your rental agreement, provided that all obligations have been met, no damage has been caused to the apartment, and all facilities under your responsibility have been emptied and cleaned.
Return the keys
Please return the keys no later than the official move-out day, which is the first weekday following the end date of the lease. This also applies to AYY’s internal apartment transfers.
The next resident has the right to access the apartment at 12 noon on your move-out day. If you have several keys to the apartment, please return at least one key to the service office before 11.00. You must return the remaining keys, parking space permissions, keys, and remote controls by the end of the same day.
Please return the keys to the service counter or the letterbox located on the white wooden door at Otakaari. Place the keys inside the envelope, seal it, and write your name, the apartment address, and the apartment number on it.

If you fail to return all the keys, you will be charged for the rekeying costs.
Please note! If you live at Maapadontie, please return the keys directly to the maintenance company.
Key handover with the new resident
You can arrange the key handover to the new resident by using the key handover agreement. Your responsibility for the apartment and rent payment remains until the end of the tenancy. Therefore, we recommend you hand over the keys to the new tenant as close to the end of your lease as possible.
If you move out of a friend’s or family apartment, arrange a key handover agreement with the remaining resident. Please indicate in the agreement how many keys will remain in the possession of the remaining resident.
Return the signed key handover agreement to AYY by email or to the letter box no later than 12 noon on the moving day. If you have not submitted the agreement to the service office by 12 noon on the moving day of the new lease at the latest, and if cleaning or repair work has been ordered for the apartment, you will be responsible for covering the expenses.

Recycle unnecessary items
We recommend recycling unwanted items before moving out.
