Resident activities

Resident activities are about doing things together and having a good time. By joining the residents’ committee, you can contribute ideas and help organize various events and activities for residents. A resident budget is allocated to each building for shared activities.

Join resident activities

You can join resident activities throughout the year, whenever you like! You can also join the residents’ committee at the annual residents’ meeting in November-December or by contacting your building’s residents’ committee.

Reach out to the residents’ committee through your building’s Telegram group or check the committee’s contact details on the notice board. The link to the Telegram group can also be found on your building’s notice board.

More information on resident activities

If your building does not have a residents’ committee or residents’ representative yet, you can contact AYY’s resident activities coordinator and let them know you would like to set up one.

The resident activities coordinator is the contact person between the residents and AYY. You can contact the coordinator with any questions related to resident democracy.

Event ideas for residents:

  • Christmas parties

Residents’ meetings

Several residents’ meetings may be held throughout the year, however, at least one residents’ meeting is organized annually. An invitation to the meeting is sent to each resident via email 14 days prior to the meeting and is also displayed on the building’s notice board.

The residents’ committee or the residents’ representative of the building organizes the residents’ meeting. If there is no residents’ committee or representative, AYY will organize the meeting. More detailed instructions and practical information on organizing the residents’ meeting are available from the resident activities coordinator.

Residents’ committee

The residents’ committee is responsible for enhancing the comfort of living and fostering a sense of community within the building, as well as maintaining contact with AYY. The residents’ committee can organize activities such as yard clean-ups, recreational activities, board game and cooking evenings, and renovations of the residents’ club room.

Residents can decide how many members will be elected to the residents’ committee. The committee chair, vice chair, and secretary are appointed. The residents’ committee determines the frequency and timing of its meetings during its term of office. Minutes of the residents’ meetings are kept and submitted to AYY.

If there are not enough volunteers for the residents’ committee (at least two persons), residents may instead elect a representative.

Housing cooperative body ASY

The housing cooperative body ASY consists of the chairs of the residents’ committees and residents’ representatives, i.e., contact persons. ASY meetings address matters related to the property and the finances of the entire rental stock.

ASY is formed at the beginning of the year by inviting all chairs of the residents’ committees and residents’ representatives to the first meeting of the housing cooperative. At the meeting, the chair, vice chair, and secretary are appointed for ASY, which meets at least four times a year.
