Jämeräntaival 3

Teekkari Village Otaniemi

JMT3

Description

Jämeräntaival 3 was one of the first residential buildings to be constructed in the Teekkari Village. Work to build the Teekkari Village began in the 1950s when the decision was made to relocate the Helsinki University of Technology from Helsinki to Otaniemi, Espoo. Before students moved in, Jämeräntaival 3 housed athletes competing in the 1952 Summer Olympics. The nearest grocery stores are located in the A Bloc shopping centre next to the metro station, and the wide range of services in the surrounding Tapiola is just a short metro ride away. Jämeräntaival 3 underwent renovations in 2018–2019. As part of the renovation, a decision was made to move away from larger shared apartments and instead focus on building studios and studio rooms within shared apartments. During the renovation, the surface materials, fixtures, and fittings of the apartments were replaced. The building also includes rental and other facilities, such as the Museum of Student Life, the rooftop sauna, and Takka Cabinet, and is therefore an essential part of the Teekkari Village’s active student culture.
